Restoration Project: 1979 Ford Escort MK2 Group 4 Rally Car
“The story of our classic rally car restoration”
After looking for almost a decade we finally managed to find the perfect base for a group 4 rally car.
A 1979 Ford Escort 2 door rolling shell crammed with boxes full of parts!!
Once we had it back in the workshop and all boxes sorted, the real work began. We started by painstakingly stripping back the 3 layers of solar gold, black and red paint to check for any rust. Luckily we found barely any but a few cosmetic repair panels were needed to tidy things up.
Now all the worst bits of a restoration were finished we started to plan the build specifications.
Body and paintwork
After many long hours of fabricating, prepping and fitting the wheel arches and spoiler it was ready for the body shop.
First on the agenda was to fabricate and fit the brake and fuel lines. All supplied from www.competitonsupplies.com. Guys over there are extremely helpful!!
